*Milltown Sarsfields vs Broadford, 14/04/22*
Milltown Sarsfields’ third Division 2 league outing of 2022 took place at Milltown on Thursday evening, the fixture being rearranged from the previous Sunday. After a relatively relaxed challenge game outing on Tuesday, the lads needed their game faces on for what was a super game. From the off, Broadford tore into us with some strong hurling and good striking. Myles D’arcy settled the nerves with an early pointed free and we followed that with two good points from play from Myles and Daithi DeLasa. However, Broadford hit back with an unanswered 1-3 and were playing the better hurling. While we had plenty of ball going into our full forward line, it wasn’t sticking, thanks in no small part to Broadford’s excellent number 3. In the backs, we were just about keeping them at bay with the returning Luca O’Brien most prominent. Two late points by Myles and Rory Tobin left the minimum between the sides at the break.
The challenge was laid down to the lads at half time and the introduction of subs Ronan Lacey, Kyle Carter, Donal Larkin and Oisin Moore added fresh legs. Despite playing against the wind, Milltown Sarsfields stepped up a gear and the defence, with Senan Clandillon, Dylan Buckley and Jayden Donoghue coming into the game strongly, repelled the Broadford attacks, limiting them to 0-3 in the half. At midfield, Cillian Sheridan and Daithi drove forward and Charlie Lyons came into it, Charlie and Daithi picking off three lovely scores between them. Myles tagged on another 0-4 and a final defensive push saw the lads finish the game off, leaving them unbeaten in the division after three outings.
Super performance by all. Best for Mill Sash on the day Luca O’Brien, Daithi DeLasa, Cilian Breslin , Rory Tobin, Myles D’arcy and Dylan Buckley.
