Match Report - "Home blitz sees Sars stars shine (in the rain)!"
Sunday saw the U12s Camogie first home games of the year when hosting Kilcullen and Laurences. The weather was brutal, but 14 hardy souls turned out to show off their skills and come away (again!) undefeated! Special mention goes to Meadhbh Carty who made her referring debut and did excellently well in all three games.
Game 1 saw the girls take on near-neighbours Kilcullen. Aoibhinn took first turn in goal and with her dad in a desperate dash to remedy the forgotten boots situation, nevertheless she remained sure-footed to launch some very strong puckouts downfield. Mia R and Keeley combined hand passes early on looking for an opening in the defence while Reiltin was firing in several long-range attempts. Roisin showed brilliant tactical awareness in taking a quick sideline ball to set up another attack with Isabelle getting some great possession in the forwards. Orlaith was unlucky not to score today, having won some great battles in front of goal and really showing her fighting spirit. Leah and Saoirse we resolute in defence, blocking and stopping the Kilcullen attackers who werent afraid to run at them. Nia and Erin were introduced at half-time and made an immediate impact, both getting stuck in from the get-go. Beth was her usual busy self in midfield with some great pickups and striking from the hand. Mia B was dangerous as ever in the forwards, consistently getting her ground strike in before the opposition and refusing to be pushed off the ball. Sarah was battling a bit of a cold, but you wouldnt have known it seeing how she was tackling and dispossessing girls a lot bigger than her, for fun. For the second match, Laurences played Kilcullen which gave the girls a few minutes to recover. However, the girls showed their teamwork by overwhelming the parents tea/coffee station defences with a tactical raid on the biscuits box! Newly refreshed the girls launched into the match v Laurences. The reporters notes got a little damp at this point, but rest assured the girls again showed super skills in blocking, pickups, sidelines, pucks out of hand and handpasses to get out of trouble. Great to see what we work on in training is on show at these matches, and that even in awful rainy conditions, the girls never complained once. Thanks again to the parents for braving the elements. We go into the league, undefeated in our last 2 blitzes (4 matches). Great things to come from this team for sure!
