Conditions couldn't have been more favourable on a beautiful sward south of Athy, as "An Chailíní Glas Agus Bán" took the field again this Sunday.
Their foes? A renewal of their rivalry with a talented Athy side and a first outing of the season versus neighbours Kilcullen.
First up was a short handed, and short in stature, Kilcullen side who benefitted from the considerable talents of our very own Rose and Grace.
Lining out in a familiar 2-2-2 formation, strong performances from all the girls (on both teams) saw a dominant display against an overmatched side.
Next up, a match up against Kilcullen again but a much more evenly matched game this time. Again, one of our own, Charlotte, donned a bib and certainly didn't dirty it in a heroic display in goals for Kilcullen.
Fantastic forward play from Isabella and Amelia, ably supplied by midfield dynamos in Mia, Jessica and Rose saw Sarsfields finest, Isabella and Amelia, land a number of early blows.
A couple of lung busting and inspirational runs out of defence from Lily set up one chance unconverted, and then an assist to a lovely score with another.
Grace pulled off some fine saves in goals and while also forming a strong shield with either Lily, Jessica or Rose when playing in defence.
A fine performance all around left spectators, coaches, players and neutrals alike happy to be in attendance.
Since we were all there, an impromptu match was arranged on the fly vs Athy, and boy, did both teams save the best for last.
Very evenly matched, both teams showed all the skills of the game in a tough contest.
Mia in goals was excellent, in defence at various stages, forming a green wall, were Lily, Grace, Jessica and Rose
In midfield, Isabella, Jessica, Rose, Lily and Mia were tigerish and tireless without the ball, but also providing great ball for the forwardline of Amelia and Charlotte. It must be said that both forwards worked so hard and contributed goals and assists throughout the day.
And with time elapsed, Sash sharpshooter Charlotte stole a march on the Athy defence and lashed home a winner any forward would be proud of.
A fantastic day, capped by a fantastic team performance.
It should be mentioned that Athy were gracious and welcoming hosts, and supplied excellent young refs, on a lovely day for all teams.
Coaches are so heartened that all of the kids own hard work is paying off with such great performances so far this year.
Next up is a Blitz in Naas on the 29th May. Mark it down in your calendars and see you all on Friday for training!
