*MATCH REPORT (Milltown Sarsfields vs Ardclough, 24/05/22)*
Our U13 hurlers took to the field on Tuesday for the delayed match versus Ardclough knowing that a win would keep them in the hunt for league honours. Ardclough, however, had other ideas and their blistering start put us under immediate pressure, scoring 0-5 without reply in a whirlwind opening 15 minutes. At this stage, we were trouble in the middle and up front with our usual touch and composure seemingly deserting us. However, our backs, led by Daithi DeLasa, Luca O’Brien and Jayden Donoghue gradually got on top and some inspirational clearances from Thomas Croke allowed us to settle. We had plenty of ball up front and, despite plenty of endeavour it wasn;t finishing with scores. Pocket rocket Fionn Clandillon hit a quickfire 1-1 brought about by the endeavours of Charlie Lyons who was beginning to pose problems to leave the gap at the minimum at half time.
Turning with the breeze behind our backs, the whole team, bolstered by subs Oisin Moore and Rory Tobin, drove on with a third quarter from the Limerick / Kilkenny book, hitting 1-5 without reply. Charlie continued breaking the play, allowing Myles D’arcy and Cillian Breslin to deliver good ball inside. A highlight of the game was some wonderful fielding, one take at full stretch by Myles followed by similar from Fionn for a great team score being the highlight.
The game closed with us emptying the bench for a great win. Still some to work on as the wide tally racked up but this young team continues to dig out results.
