Our u12 Camogie team played their first games of the year in the grading blitz. The twenty strong panel played three competitive games against host Round Towers and the camogie strongholds of Celbridge and St.Laurences. Game 1 saw the Sash girls start well with Alannah, Isobel and Beth attacking from the first whistle, however our defence soon came under pressure despite the heroic efforts of Eabha, Tamara and the rock that is Róisín and a stronger Towers team took a narrow victory. Game 2 pitched the Sash into battle with Celbridge who settled early, however Réiltín soon led the fightback, taking on seven players at one stage to give the team momentum and a foothold in the game, and with Emma, Emer and Orlaith soon keeping a steady flow of ball into the forwards, the fox in the box, Sadhb bagged a brace of goals, soon followed by a hand-passed point from Leah, that delighted coaches as it has been well practiced on the training pitch. Our keeper Aoibhinn could not be beaten and a strong defence of Alexandra and the warrior Sarah Weldon ensured we held out. Game 3 was again a tight affair which was edged by the Larry’s and where our forwards Sophie, Doireann and Bronagh had to work very hard for scores, but they were ably assisted by the energetic midfield duo of Nia and Sully (aka Emily O’Sullivan) who was certainly exercising those shoulders ahead of her participation in this weekend’s national shot putt championship. It was great to be back playing matches and we look forward to our home blitz in the coming weeks. Cailíní na Sairséalaigh Abú and good luck Emily!!
